Partial Differential Equations and Computer Vision

Dates
Description
the objective of the school is to present an outline of the recent development of the application of Partial Differential Equations to Image Processing. These last 10 years have seen a new field emerging from a need for better mathematical formalism of problems in Image Processing. It was introduced at first for an invariant image analysis through different scales, and also used for adaptative image smoothing, image sequence analysis, active contours and surfaces, curve evolution. The school is intended to beginners as well confirmed scientists in both the Mathematician Community and the Computer Science Community.

Computer tools in the research area of complex dynamical systems

Dates
Description
The objective of the school is to explain the use of software in recent research work on complex dynamical systems. The school is devoted to continuous dynamical systems and discrete complex dynamical systems. The theory of wavelets is also part of the program because of its links with fractal sets.

History of mathematics from the Antiquity to the XVIIIth century

Dates
Description
The aim of the school is to allow mathematician participants to renew the memory of their science and to see it in a new perspective. For historians of mathemaics and of the sciences, it is to acquaint them with the mathematical activity of periods on which they do not work. The field of the school will be mathematics from Antiquity to the beginning of the XVIIIth century. It has been chosen in order to train research workers about periods the approach of which is difficult (for reasons of language, nature of the texts, etc) and to put the mathematics of these periods in their cultural context.

Partial Differential Equations

Dates
Description
The objectives of the school are to introduce the participants to mathematical tools, in particular arithmetic, algebraic and geometric ones used in certain recent developments in algebraic Coding Theory , Cryptography and related areas. These directions are in full development and represent an extremely rich research area open to the applications.

Objects and Network

Dates
Description
The mere presence of the network makes now possible computations involving data and programs from everywhere on earth. Distribution is a key technology but poses a number of programming and engineering problems. This school aims to prove that object technology is adequate for distributed programming. The Java programming language will be used to support the school.
