During the last three decades and in a technological and economical complex world, mathematical models play an important role in the decision-making tools. Indeed, whether to develop and calibrate models, measure and control risks associated with economic phenomena or financial instruments, mathematical tools provide skills highly appreciated to better understand these phenomena and improve prediction of their inherent risks.

The aim of the school is to familiarize the participants with the concepts of singularities of algebraic and analytic spaces and holomorphic and real analytic maps and foliations. The approach will be geometric, algebraic, topological as well as analytic. The lectures will be introductory, focusing on the general aspects of singularity theory as well as on low dimensional cases. The goal of each lecture is to bring the participants up to the level necessary to start active research in the subject.

The purpose of this school is to allow young researchers to acquire the main notions of symplectic geometry and low-dimensional topology, and to access the recent developments in these domains. The program of the school will make a wide part for the various aspects of the interactions between symplectic geometry, contact topology on one hand, and knot theory, topology of low-dimensional manifolds on the other hand, in particular Floer homology and its derivatives.

This Research School is addressed graduate students and young researchers in Geometry, Topology and Mathematical Physics, although undergraduates and senior researchers in other areas may profit of the introductory lectures too, and are warmly invited to join the School.

School’s duration is two weeks (ten full days). First week will be devoted to the general theory. Three main directions will be presented : linear theory in finite and infinite dimensions ; the nonlinear case dealt with as a perturbation of the linear case ; and bifurcations from an equilibrium towards a periodic orbit. The second week will be focused on applications with, at a first place, the geometry of delay differential equations.
