Mathematical Problems Arising From Thin Structures: Plates and Shells

Dates
Description
To give an initiation to the modern theory of plates and shells, including in particular the use of asymptotics methods for the justification of bidimensional models, the mathematic analysis of these models and the study of the most performing methods employed in numerical simulations. The school is intended to young researchers and students with a good training in fonctional analysis, partial differential equations and numerical analysis.

Geometric and Topological Methods for Quantum Field Theory

Dates
Description
This school is the second of a series of summer schools to take place in Colombia (the last one took place in July 1999) on topics on the boarder line between geometry, topology and quantum field theory. The courses are addressed to both physicists and mathematicians with a masters level in either of the fields. The lectures will therefore serve as an introduction to some active areas of research around the following topics.

Algorithms and Combinatorics

Dates
Description
Combinatorics plays an important role as a mathematical tool in diverse fields such as computer science, applied mathematics, operational research, biology, chemistry, etc. Many problems in these sciences can be formulated using combinatorial models. The analysis of these models often yields algorithms to solve such problems. The main aim of the Summer School is to explore this close relationship between combinatorics and algorithms. The lectures are intended to give the state of art in algorithms and combinatorics, in both aspects: Theory(graph theory, complexity theory, probabilistic methods, partially ordered sets) and Pratice (combinatorial optimization, routing, frequency allocation problem, microbiology).

Algebraic Geometry and its applications to error correcting codes and cryptography

Dates
Description
The objectives of this school are to introduce the participants to mathematical tools, in particular arithmetic, algebraic and geometric ones used in certain recent developments in algebraic Coding Theory , Cryptography and related areas. These directions are in full development and represent an extremely rich research area open to the applications.

Partial Differential Equations and Related Topics

Dates
Description
The objective of the school is to present various results and techniques related to linear and nonlinear PDE, both in theoretical and applied domains, in a form that is accessible to beginning researchers as well to doctoral students in analysis.

Uncertain Dynamical Methods in Economics and Finance

Dates
Description
The objective is to provide the audience with modern mathematical methods in the framework of both stochastic and contingent dynamics of economic anf financial markets, discrete, continuous and hybrid. The respect at each moment and for each stochastic event of scarcity constraints is the main unifying and federative objective of the mathematical methods proposed. Specialists of stochastic and viability techniques will confront their view points together with practioneers.

Advanced Algorithmic Techniques for Parallel Computation with Applications

Dates
Description
The objective of this school is mainly to spread the knowledge on Parallel and Distributed Algorithms, considering their theoretical and pratical aspects. The activities and discussions will focus on algorithms and applications suitable for intensive parallelization. What characterizes these applications is the possibility to obtain, through the utilization of parallel computers, a solution for larger problems than those currently being solved by sequential computers.
