"CIMPA ambassador" Programme

A support program for young researchers

The various activities of CIMPA enable students and researchers from developing countries to train and enrich their work throughout their careers. To closely support the most promising participants, CIMPA has established a system of grants at the end of its schools (kick-off grants). These most often allow the laureates to launch a first collaborative project with a researcher abroad. Once this project is successfully completed, we wish to extend and amplify this dynamic. This is why we launched the "CIMPA ambassador" program in 2025. Each year, through a call for applications, it allows laureates of kick-off grants from previous years to submit a new project funded up to 2,000 euros.

This program is not an open call. It is exclusively intended for laureates of kick-off grants awarded at the end of CIMPA schools, which led to a successful research stay. Candidates are therefore contacted directly by email.

They generally fall into one of these categories:

  • Research visit: the applicant wants to go and visit another researcher to start or continue a scientific collaboration. Conversely, the applicant may use CIMPA support to invite a colleague to work with in their country. In both cases, a sound research project, a support letter from the colleague, and their CV are required.
  • Conference: the applicant wants to participate in a conference in which they will present a poster or give a talk. A link to the conference website with their name in the program or a letter of invitation for the poster presentation or the talk is necessary.
  • Research school: the applicant is invited to participate in a research school (for instance, a CIMPA school). The letter of invitation is required.

In no case will CIMPA accept to pay for article processing charges (APC) for publication, and we encourage publishing in a virtuous journal (see a list here).

Commitment: The laureate becomes an ambassador for CIMPA. This role involves:

  • Acting as a relay to raise awareness about the various types of activities that can be carried out with CIMPA. This may require getting informed about CIMPA's activities on its website.
  • Instagram stories (optional): If possible and if the laureate is familiar with Instagram, we will publish stories during the project. To do so, the laureate needs to follow cimpa_math, allow CIMPA to follow their account, and tag cimpa_math in the stories they wish to share with us.
  • At the end of the activity: We will conduct a short interview to publish a note in our newsletter; a formal report in English on this mission must be submitted within one month. This is a mandatory document to apply for any future CIMPA activity or grant. It must contain the main achievements and activities carried out during this period.

The "CIMPA ambassador" program is not an open call. Eligible candidates are contacted directly. It is therefore unnecessary to send an email to CIMPA to express interest in this program.
