CIMPA School on Recent Advances in Combinatorics and its Application

Dates
Description

In this school we intend to focus on different concepts Combinatorics and its applications. The school will provide an introduction to both basic and more advanced topics. The scientific content of the various courses will be tightly coordinated in order to provide students with a possibility of the real concrete learning experience which further can become a foundation for the further study. We expect audience from Master, Phd and young faculty who are currently working or planning to work in this interesting area of Mathematics. We assume a reasonable general mathematical background but no previous specialized knowledge of the topics to be covered in school. A significant amount of time will be dedicated to exercises and tutorial sessions where students will receive individual attention from the lecturers. Also, there will be few discussions sessions and presentations by the young researchers.

SuSAAN Summer School of Applied Arithmetic at Nesin

Dates
Description

The summer school aims to gather young researchers and to give a motivating goal along which the participants will be able to aggregate new knowledge. The research topics include function field arithmetic, algebraic curves over finite fields, complex multiplication, boolean functions, finite geometry, and combinatorics. The school will be mostly structured into working sessions in small groups under the direction of at least one lecturer. Before the beginning of the school, the lecturers will propose open problems together with pre-request material (books/papers). During the application, the participants notify their preferential interest and working groups will be formed 8 groups under the above-mentioned research working areas. Via mini-lectures the mathematical materials and the use of computer algebra

software will be introduced to the participants. At the end of the school, the participants are supposed to write a report that will be posted on an open platform.

CIMPA Summer Research School in Mathematical Epidemiology

Dates
Description

The University of Dhaka was established in 1921. Academic activities started on 1 July 1921, with three faculties: Arts, Science, and Law and 12 Departments including Mathematics. Historically, this University was in a leading position to establish "Bangla" as mother language in 1952 and played a vital role in 1971 for the independence of Bangladesh.

Dhaka University is the leading University of Bangladesh. This year University is celebrating its 100 years of establishment. Applied Mathematics department has started journey in 2014. Now both the Departments have about 50 (35+15) faculty members and near about 1100 (750+350) students. Research area focused on, mainly, Algebra, Differential Geometry, Dynamical Systems, Financial Mathematics, Fluid Mechanics, Mathematical Biology, Numerical Analysis, Operation Research at M.Sc level. Every year around 20-25 students take dissertation as thesis work on different research area, including a good number of students in mathematical biology. Department has a good number of PhD students in different research areas including Mathematical Biology.

ANNULÉE - Structures ordonnées et leurs applications en finance

Dates
Description

The CIMPA school « Structures ordonnées et leurs applications en finance » claims to be multidisciplinary, while fostering constructive and positive interactions between the different fields that will be covered by the occurrence. Thus, this school is based upon two main lines of action, namely, Mathematical Finance and Stochastic Calculus. However, the look at these topics will be given from an "Order" point of view, that is, within the framework of Algebraic and Analytic Ordered Structures.

Indeed, the Theory of Ordered Structures is, by its very nature, multidisciplinary and is involved in a very wide range of fields. The audience of this school would enjoy original and interesting lectures, given by experts coming from the four corns of the world, and dealing with the last trends and advances in the Ordered Structures Theory and its various applications in Mathematical Finance and Stochastic Calculus.

P-Adic Numbers, Ultrametric Analysis, and Applications (École CIMPA 2020 reportée en raison du Covid 19)

Dates
Description

The school aims to introduce graduate students and young researchers to the recent connections between p-adic analysis (understood in a large sense) with mathematical physics and computer science. The courses will be focused on active research areas. The tentative list of courses include: (1) introduction to p-adic analysis; (2) introduction to local zeta functions; (3) p-adic models in quantum physics; (4) the p-adic theory of automata; (5) p-adic electrostatics; (6)  Strings amplitudes, local zeta functions, and log-Coulomb gases. Besides lectures, we are also planning sessions devoted to solving exercises and informal meetings to propose and discuss research problems.

Groups and Geometry (École CIMPA 2021 reportée en raison du Covid 19 (Format hybride)

Dates
Description

Geometric group theory is a relatively new line of research on its own, inspired by pioneering works of M. Dehn, G.D. Mostow and M. Gromov. It is mainly devoted to the study of countable groups by exploring connections between algebraic properties of such groups and geometric properties of spaces on which these groups act, such as the deck transformation group of a Riemannian manifold. Geometric group theory is a very broad area, and this program aims at introducing young students to different aspects of the theory.

Starting from classical results such at the Mostow rigidity theorem, we intend to build a body of knowledge to the students by introducing them to some basic material concerning hyperbolic geometry, quasi-isometry invariants and amnability, and to several modern aspects of geometric grop theory: word hyperbolic groups, boundary theory, ergodic theory and representations.

ANNULÉE - Logic@Natal: School in Mathematical Logic and Applications (École CIMPA 2020 reportée en raison du Covid 19)

Dates
Description

Mathematical Logic is a subfield of mathematics exploring the applications of formal logic to mathematics. Its inception was motivated by the study of foundations of mathematics and it has found applications in many areas, specially in Theoretical Computer Science. The four pillars of Mathematical Logic are Set Theory, Recursion Theory, Model Theory and Proof Theory. This school intends to cover all such subjects, on different levels and with different applications.  The proposed tree basic courses have the great advantage of requiring no or little prior knowledge. Talking about Set Theory and First Order Logic means establishing a common ground notation for all the formalism that will come from that. And every area in Mathematics can profit from this formal language that will be presented by one of the main active researchers in the field. The four advantage courses have a very strong inter-disciplinary nature, specially in the study of proofs and how they can be automated or analyzed. This is a trend in the area of Mathematical Logic which is interesting to be pursued. Besides the courses, sessions on proof theory and rewriting are planned. This is a flourishing research area, which builds the bridge between pure Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science. In this setting, the Logic@Natal: School in Mathematical Logic with Applications aims to attend a growing community of undergraduate and graduate students in the area, as well as young researchers, focusing preferentially those coming from Latin America.

ANNULÉE- Packing, Tiling and Optimizing (École CIMPA 2020 reportée en raison du Covid 19)

Dates
Description

This  school  aims  to  introduce  young  researchers  and  students  to  actual research  problems  in  the  field  of  tilings,  packings  and  optimization.  In particular,  we  shall  focus  on  possible  original  interactions between  these thematics, as well  as connections with more classic fields as number theory, transportation modeling or word combinatorics. There shall be six long courses, which consist of lectures as well as training sessions (at least half of the time – since  it  is  the  best  way  to  see  what  participants  with  very  different backgrounds really understand). We also plane an « open problem » session, the goal of which is to propose possible new research axes to the participants. An excursion is  planned the  first  day  in  order  to  facilitate  contact  among participants and lecturers for the rest of the week (the goal of sport activities is similar).
