The school will consist of two parts.

  1. General Lectures on multiple scales problems mainly homogenization techniques and applications

  2. Symposium for more specialized topics.

Participants will be introduced to theoretical concepts through lectures delivered by invited experts. The colloquium will be around some specific research problems and will enable the participants to get in touch with those current problems.

Historically, applied mathematics in the region was very much biased towards engineering and mathematical physics. At the same time, Africa has been experiencing serious problems with various diseases (HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Tuberculosis, etc). Only in recent times has Southern Africa started to respond by harnessing its mathematical expertise towards the control of diseases. The most recent action in this regard is the establishment of the South African Centre for Epidemiological Modeling and Applications (SACEMA).

Representation Theory of Lie algebras and Group Theory will be the topics of the Research School Algebraic Representation Theory 2015.

The School encompasses various topics in contemporary algebra: non-associative algebras, graph algebras, computer algebra and category theory.

Many classical results and methods of Number Theory are now actively used in important domains of applied mathematics like Cryptography,CodingTheory or Numerical Analysis.To enable these applications one must have explicit versions of these number-theoretical results and tools. This is why Explicit Number Theory emerged and rapidly developed during the last several decades.

In this CIMPA school we plan to introduce the students to this field. The following list is a sample of the topics that will be considered:
