The organization of this school is motivated by the promising potential and the good scientific level of students and young researchers in the field of differential geometry in Lebanon and in the neighboring countries (Iraq, Jordan, Syria ..). The school aims to be a unifying project for young researchers in Lebanon who recently graduated a PhD in the field of differential geometry, and thus facilitate the emergence of a research team on this issue in Lebanon. The school will provide opportunities for these young researchers to meet and to build relationships with established mathematicians. In addition, there will be the opportunity to discuss possible scientific collaborations and to develop joint projects between mathematicians of the region.
Thematically, the main objective of this school is to present the sub-Riemannian geometry as a crossroads of different areas of mathematical research. After an introductory course on sub-riemannian geometry, the other topics that will be addressed concern optimal transport, control theory, non-holonomic mechanics, Cartan distributions in jets spaces, hypoelliptic operators and algebraic geometry. Each of these courses will describe at least one application to sub-riemannian geometry. Short talks on subjects related to the themes of the school will also be given.
